Camera Overcompensating?

Last week I began a part time job shooting high school sports. Its for company that does portraits for yearbook, class picture, etc, etc. Not a bad gig, mostly work in afternoon few days a week. All i'm required is to take the team picture and then action shots while they play, none of that cookie cutter sport portrait stuff. (bleh)

At one football game, I happened to be standing next to this woman, awhile later a man i assume to be her husband with a huge camera comes up. Out of the blue she remarks to me: "You need a REAL camera like this!" eehhh!? but I didn't make any reply. I took a harder look at what the man had. It was a nikon D2Hs(http://www.dpreview.com/articles/nikond2hs/) with the 80-400mm lense. Thats a $4000 body thats only 4 megapixels and shoots 8 fps. I didn't have the heart to tell her my D300 is 12 mp and can shoot 8 fps with the extra grip. The lense is also supposed to be slow to focus and really bad for sports. Its alot like owning a Hummer, its huge and expensive, but doesn't serve much practical purpose.

hmm there adult content level now, interesting. What the heck is adult concept?

It occured to me that everything I've done in photography has basically been done backwards. I knew retouching workflows before even taking pictures. I knew composition and lighting when I was still figuring out aperture and shutter speed. I've handled $20 grand plus medium format camera before really touching an SLR. I've shot Fashion Week and have yet to get a paying photography gig. A few days ago I went on an interview at a photo studio, but they only shoot film. I briefly considered getting a film body. I think I developed 4 rolls of film in my whole life.

Standing outside with two people and it was raining.

Me:"I get to use my giant date umbrella!"
I pull out my big Totes umbrella and the music plays from Zelda when acquiring new item.
Standing under umbrella:
Jeremiah:"You know, this is actually the exact opposite of a date umbrella"
Me:"Huh?"
Jeremiah:"A date umbrella should be really small so you have an excuse rub up against her or put your arms around her"

Pause

Consuela:"Well maybe this is the umbrella Mike uses when he goes on orgies"
Jeremiah:"So this is the orgy umbrella?"
Consuela:"Yeah."
Me: -_-;

Other guy comes out. I don't know his name but the others know him.

Consuela:"Hey come stand under the orgy umbrella!"
She seems very happy with the name she came up with.

Other guy is confused and opens up his cheap black chinatown umbrella.

This year I've been busy!

Last Saturday I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). In February I gave lilykane a Dutch Oven (-10 points). Last month I gave zougla a kidney (1000 points). In January I pulled over and changed yi_neng's flat tire (15 points). In September I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points).

Overall, I've been nice (2031 points). For Christmas I deserve a Pony Slaystation 3!

This was an awesome and ultimately pointless movie. My favorite type. Its about a random meeting of two people in the semi ghetto part of LA. The whole movie is just two people interacting. The scene in Target has to be one of my favorites of all time.
Paz Vega is great in it, she pulls off snarky american attitude even though she has an accent. She's pretty hot too even though she has a kinda manly jawline.
There's a bunch of other actors you've seen elsewhere. The little Indian guy from Royal Tenenbaums, "Evil Bitch" from current episodes of House MD, Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, chubby jewish guy from Superbad which i've been meaning to see. I might actually buy the dvd(10 items,not superbad).
